Refinery wins ‘Project of the Year’ at Angola Oil & Gas Awards

Leaders from the Cabinda Refinery took centre stage in Luanda, collecting ‘Project of the Year’ at the Angola Oil & Gas Awards 2025. Held on March 28th at the InterContinental Hotel Miramar, the ceremony brought together the biggest names in the country’s energy sector to celebrate innovation and achievement.
Organised by PetroAngola, the awards are widely regarded as one of the industry’s most important platforms - recognising the projects and partnerships shaping Angola’s energy landscape.
For the refinery, the recognition is a major accolade. The project has been a key contributor to advancing operational standards, introducing new approaches to delivery, and supporting the long-term development of Angola’s energy sector.
The evening was attended by senior leadership: Pablo Mattos, Head of Downstream Operations; Arsénio Chicolomuenho, Head of Institutional Relations; and Marco Aurélio, Industrial & Engineering Director (pictured, left to right) - a reflection of the project’s strategic importance.
“This award reinforces the refinery’s role within Angola’s energy agenda,” said Arsénio Chicolomuenho. “It speaks to the strength of our partnerships, our operational focus, and our commitment to the country’s long-term development.”
The well-attended event highlighted the importance of collaboration across the sector, with nominations recognising major partnerships such as ANPG with ReconAfrica and Sonangol Distribuidora with AIR BP.
Beyond the headline win, the award reflects the ongoing excellence of the teams and partnerships behind the project - and signals what’s possible when execution, expertise and long-term vision come together.
